Angelo Mangiarotti, "Eros", Dining Table, Skipper, 1970s

Angelo Mangiarotti for Skipper, dining table ‘Eros’, white marble, 1970s This sculptural table by Angelo Mangiarotti is a skilful example of postmodern design. The table is executed in white marble. The round tabletop features no joints or clamps and is architectural in its structure. The table top rests on one cone-shaped leg in the middle. The top 'locks' itself onto the marble cone and keeps in place because of the weight of the material. As a consequence, the entire structure is stable and strong. Angelo Mangiarotti (1921-2012) was an Italian architect and Industrial designer with a reputation to mainly focus on the needs of the users of furniture. His designs are solid and strong and he always used materials that would stand the test of time. Being schooled as an architect, Mangiarotti was very precise in using the right material and the right sizing for his designs.
